Dibits Stories

by HereWeGoAJen on February 29, 2012

Last week, I was shopping at Babies R Us for a bunch of baby-proofing things for Elizabeth’s room now that she’s out of her crib and has free reign of the room.  (She hasn’t gotten out of bed yet without someone coming to get her, but it is only a matter of time, I’m sure.)  I was checking out and the cashier looked at Elizabeth and said “you are very pretty!”  Elizabeth gets told this sort of thing a lot (I’d estimate that about half her public comments are for being pretty in general and the other half are for having pretty hair) and she doesn’t appreciate strangers talking to her.  She typically screams “NO” at the strangers when they dare to speak to her.  We are working on this because I want her to be polite, but it is a work in progress.  Anyway, the cashier told her she was pretty.  She screamed “NO!  I NOT PRETTY!”  The cashier said “oh?  You aren’t pretty?”  Elizabeth shrieked “no, I not!  I am BEAUTIFUL.”

**********

A couple of days ago, Elizabeth and I were taking a shower together.  She was playing with the soap and having a delightful time washing herself.  “Look, Mama!  I am washing my belly!  Now I am washing my legs!”  Then she rubbed her eyes, even though I had been telling her not to.  As her hands had soap all over them, she got it in her eyes.  She rubbed harder.  She started shrieking.  So I did the only thing there was to do.  I took the handheld shower head and sprayed her directly in the face.  She was deeply insulted.

**********

Two nights ago, Elizabeth was having trouble falling asleep, so Matt went into her room and laid down in her bed next to her.  She said something like mumble mumble Doda.  (Doda is her doll, if you recall.)  Matt asked her what she was saying.  She repeated mumble mumble Doda.  This went on two or three more times.  Then he says that she lifted her head of her pillow and said very clearly “I will say it louder.  Daddy, you are squishing my Doda.  Get off her.”

Oh my goodness. These are too cute, but I really had tears in my eyes on story #2. I am so sorry Dibits but that story is to funny. I bet she was deeply insulted by the hand held shower being sprayed in her eyes.
As I sit hear laughing G comes to me and says, “Awww your crying you ok momma”?

Thanks for the posting of the cute stories.

That child is HILARIOUS. (Although you get honorable mention because spraying her in the face? So freaking funny!)

I see in your sidebar that you tweeted about “tiny droplets of melted butter glistening on top of my corn chowder.” Please please PLEASE send me whatever recipe led to that stomach-growl-inducing tweet!

I will say it louder. Again. Cam and dibits need to meet. Cam came into the kitchen with a broken firetruck ladder. He says to me – momma, it’s broken. I look at it, say I’m not sure what to do – he looks me square in the face and says ‘I know! We need tape!’ it struck me SO funny I couldn’t stop laughing, and he got offended – its NOT funny mana. No laughing at me!!!’

That shower scene has unfolded in our house in exactly the same way. More than once. The soapy kid is always surprised and nonplussed. And I am always amused.

It would be fun to send Anna and Dibits out in public together to make friendly strangers feel really terrible about themselves. As a team.
