While I was pregnant with Ryan, Elizabeth spent a lot of time and effort trying to get us to change our minds and have a baby sister instead of a baby brother. So honestly, I was pretty surprised that she liked him as much as she did when he was born. (Because her utter adoration of this baby is quite impressive. Not for one moment has she had anything but love for him. Although she does sometimes tell him that he is hurting her ears.)
So today, as I was making dinner, holding Ryan on my hip, and Elizabeth was helping me, I casually asked her “Elizabeth, do you think we should take brother back to the hospital and exchange him for a baby sister instead?” She looked up at me with both intrigue and horror and man, you guys, Sophie’s choice. She finally came to a good conclusion and announced that we would have Two! Babies! We could keep Ryan and also get a baby sister! It would be a great idea!
(Then I obviously explained to her that I was joking and you can’t really switch babies. Her response to that was kind of “yeah, Mama, whatever, can I work the can opener again?”)

I’m so impressed with her.
Oh my gosh I love this!!
We’ve had similar conversations at our house. Before the baby brother I asked her if she’d rather have a boy or a dog and she said a dog! Now she’s happy with a brother, but would add a sister in a heartbeat!
Too funny.
I was 5 when my younger brother was adopted, and I was so enthralled with him, as soon as he was old enough I carted him around like my live baby doll. He loved the attention.
When I was 7, my mom gave birth to my youngest brother. I was so convinced that the baby HAD to be a girl (I already had a brother), that when I first found out I ran over to a friend’s house and cried.
Soon enough though I realized that being the only girl had it’s advantages too. But that didn’t stop me from dressing up the youngest brother as a girl once in a while.
Pretty sure Anna would be okay with just dropping Ivy back off and going on our way.
Once I asked Kalena if she thought we should have another baby (back when we were in the “still considering” stages of wanting a third) and she thought for a second and said, “No. I like Buster.” She assumed we’d have to trade him for a new one!
haha, I like her conclusion, too!!
Now you’ve done it. I bet she’s already demanding another baby.
