Medicated

by HereWeGoAJen on October 23, 2012

Ryan had his doctor’s appointment today. I told the doctor that he had reflux that was bothering him and that he was never happy anymore and she said “well, if you don’t want to try medication right away, there are some other…” And I cut her off and said “WE WANT THE MEDICINE. NOW. DO YOU HAVE ANY IN THE ROOM RIGHT THIS MINUTE?”

So she wrote a prescription for reflux medicine (Zantac, for those of you playing along at home) and Ryan, after one dose, is already a much happier boy. I ate dinner sitting down, with the use of both hands! Last night, I ate standing up at the kitchen counter, with him propped up against my shoulder in one arm while he screamed the whole time.

He’s sleeping right now! And he fell asleep all by himself (like he used to before this whole reflux thing began) when I put him down to go tell Elizabeth to go to sleep already.

In other news, he’s shooting up the growth charts, just like his big sister. I can’t remember when she hit the 99%, but he is on his way.

His head started giant and is leveling off. Kind of.

Yeah. I kinda think that might have been part of Ewan’s problem. But they never diagnosed it as such or gave me anything… Maybe bc I had a shitty Dic for a while at first.

Yay for meds! And babies who fall asleep by themselves!

Yay for the Zantac… It was one of our best friends when G was little. She had terrible reflux. They also told us to elevate her when sleeping. We took 3 large binders and put under her mattress and worked like wonders.

So Ryan is almost the same weight that Blue was when he was born. THAT is nuts.

Will was similar as a baby, with lots and lots of wake ups and the non-stop screaming business. It is hard, I know, and I have a feeling it’s coming for me with Drew in just a week or do as he is already sleeping less and crying more.

With Will, it was also a milk protein sensitivity in addition to reflux. So I am going to hope that isn’t the case with your little guy (though our pediatrician said the two are usually hand in hand. . . but you will be the exception).

I guess what I am trying to say is that I am glad that you stood up for yourself at the pediatrician’s and also really glad that the medicine seemed to be working. I know how hard it is functioning on so little sleep (since I have been and currently am right there with you). We’ll get through it. . . right??

Hugs.
